Wireless Routers

are lame.

Also -

i bought Jane the British version of Planet Earth and it rocks so hard.
The discovery channels (all the educational TV) needs some HD now.  The standard channels are often fuzzy and just not crisp enough.

Watching Planet Earth in full focus HD crispness is sexy.

Also, the British version as narrated by David Attenborough (as opposed to Sigorney Weaver) makes it sound more intelligent (as British accents usually do).

the only critic i have is that the score is different in the British version versus the American version, and so far i like the American score better.

40$ used and worth every cent.

Birthday Drums Stuff.

Today is my mom's birthday.

Happy birthday mom!

I made her an awesome meal and did the dishes. Not much, but money's tight and she appreciated it.

I also played drums (my sister has a set) for about 15 minutes.
This was much to Jane's dismay. She had never sat so close to a drum set before.

And i'm terrible at them (for now).

She forbade me from having drums in the house...
so i'll just sneak them in later.

New Things!

2 things:

(1) http://songaday365.blogspot.com/ is my other blog ... if you haven't seen it. Read it, contribute, and love it.

(2) I figured out how to rotate my desktop display (i had to update my graphic card drivers) and now i can flip my monitor (one of those fancy dell flat screens that rotate to a portrait position) and read PDF's in a much better fashion.

Lunatics.

Let me paint a picture for you. With words. (I'm neither articulate or a good painter, so hold on to your seats.)

Monday night 1:00 am, I'm in bed but not asleep. Jane is in her bed and is a sleep.

A heavy pounding on a door from downstairs grabs my attention. Brody (my dog) goes nuts. Quickly getting dressed I grab Brody from Jane's room, and head downstairs.

My thoughts: something happened (dunno what) and it's the neighbors at my door.

Reality: still not sure, leaning towards crack head.

I move the curtain from the front door window and a black man, about my height with short hair and poor teeth is standing at my front door.

Allow me to clarify the previous statement. I have an enclosed porch with a screen door. This guy had bypassed the screen door and walked onto my porch and pounded on my house door, at 1:00 am on a Monday night.

We exchange some words, basically this:

me: can i help you
him: is (garbled name here) there?
me (clearly pissed): you got the wrong house bro
him: oh? you sure (garbled name here) isn't there?
me: its one in the morning, you got the wrong house! (i may have used some explatives...)
him: (incoherent)

and he leaves.
The name could have been Rob, Ryan, Wayne ... or something else I'm not really sure.

But after our exchange, and my dog doing everything short of busting through the door and using the dude as a chew toy, he left.

Got in his car and took off.

I called the cops, told them what had transpired and asked them to send a patrol car to scope out the neighborhood.

I mean what the hell!

Giving the man the benefit of the doubt, and saying he was just lost... who pounds on the front door (instead of the porch door) at 1 in the frigging morning on a Monday.

I'm assuming he was drunk or stoned, but i can't say for sure.

Let's just say I'm not pleased by the prospect of lunatics pounding on my door at 1 am.

Gah Spring!

Screw Spring. Seriously.

I'll preface with, i didn't rake in the fall, and I'm fairly confident my landlord only partially raked the following fall. That said:

At first winter sucked; my yard was covered in leaves and the snow never looked pretty (except in heavy amounts of snow cases) because the dead leaves poked through the snow cover. Then when ever snow would thaw, my basement would leak. A little at first, then more and more, until one of the basement 'side rooms' (about 8' x 4') began filling too about an inch deep before overflowing into the rest of the basement.

At first i thought this was in part due to the leaves, and a lack of filtration, because the back yard was essentially a lake, with it's own swamp monster to boot!

Then spring came. And ruined everything.
I spent the bulk of our first warm weekend being a legitimate adult by doing yard work.
I filled 9 bags with yard refuse (90% leaves) and still have about 9 more bags to fill from around the garage, the side of the drive way, under the deck, and the front of the house.
But the central area of the backyard lake was cleared.

Then came the rain (a pivotal part of spring I'm told) and ravaged my backyard, and basement.
It was like Neptune himself took up residence in my basement, and then left and stiffed me on the rent.

Except not that bad.

So this rant rounds back out to my original point, screw spring.
Bring on the unbearably hot summer weather. Please.

Words about Words

Two interesting things of note:

(1) I was at the library today catching up with old friends, it rocked. Also, say a prayer and wish me luck, as i have applied for another PSA position with the library and I would be STOKED to have it!

(2) Hi Abbey. (I'm pirating your random link's philosophy, though yours are far superior!)

(3) Notice the '4th' comment on my "You Can Weld Right?" post ... I'm fairly confident that i have no idea who that person is. Which means, someone i don't know has read my blog (or at least glanced at it.) Which totally tickles my fancy!

(4) NPR is doing their pledge drive right now... and this sucks. Yes donating to public radio is a good thing, and if i had expendable income i would. However, even if i did, they wouldn't end the pledge drive early... so they still interrupt my programing! It is very bothersome (though i suppose admittedly necessary) and i have resorted to listening to 92.3 in lieu of NPR at work. 92.3's reformatting isn't terrible... and reminded me today just how much i enjoy 90's rock; mmm silver chair and the toadies... you know what i mean nick!
